Project Overview
Enabling faster team decisions through Community Polls in a Professional Collaboration App.
Enabling faster team decisions through Community Polls in a Professional Collaboration App.

In this project, I designed the Community Poll feature as a lightweight decision-making tool within the communities, helping teams quickly gather opinions, align on choices, and reduce back-and-forth discussions all while shipping within a tight deadline.

About & Constraints
Designing Within Real-World Constraints
Designing Within Real-World Constraints
I designed a community poll feature to enable quick, in-context decision-making within team communities. My scope covered the core feature experience, including poll creation, voting interactions, and result visibility, while aligning with the platform’s existing design system and product patterns.

The platform is a mobile-first work and communities solution designed to connect distributed and deskless teams through structured communication. Instead of mixing all conversations into a single feed, it enables organizations to create dedicated communities for teams, departments, projects, or interest groups helping keep updates, discussions, and collaboration organized and purposeful.

These requirements defined how community polls should be created, managed, and experienced by both moderators and members.

Defining Problem
How might we enable teams to make quick, in-context decisions without disrupting existing community workflows?

Community polls needed to support fast decision-making while feeling like a natural extension of ongoing discussions. The challenge was to balance simplicity for members with enough control for moderators, ensuring polls remained easy to use, easy to understand, and integrated seamlessly into the broader community experience.

The Solution
A simple polling experience, built for everyday decisions

The final solution introduces in-feed community polls that support fast creation, intuitive voting, and instant result visibility. Designed to blend into the existing product patterns, polls feel natural to use while keeping decision-making lightweight and contextual.

Poll Visibility
Making poll outcomes easy to understand at a glance
Making poll outcomes easy to understand at a glance

Because polls are often checked mid-conversation, result visibility needed to work in seconds. The design ensures outcomes are readable at a glance, while adapting visual cues based on whether the poll supports single or multiple selections.

Why I chose Option-2?
Keeps poll results easy to scan by reducing visual noise.

Preserves space for option text across different poll sizes.

Why not Option-1?
Adds unnecessary visual clutter in dense community feeds.

Poll Creation

The poll creation flow is designed to reduce effort for moderators by keeping inputs minimal and controls easy to access. Questions, options, and key settings can be added in one continuous flow, allowing polls to be created in seconds without breaking context.

Edge Cases
Designing for the moments in between

It’s easy to overlook edge cases under tight timelines, so I intentionally designed them while working on the main flow instead of handling them as afterthoughts.

Learnings & Challenges
What I learned
What I learned
Simpler solutions often work better than feature-heavy ones.
Not every familiar pattern improves the experience in every context.
Clarity matters more than visual novelty, especially in everyday workflows.
Small decisions compound into how intuitive a product feels.
Designing is as much about what you remove as what you add.
Challenges I faced
Challenges I faced
Letting go of ideas that looked good but didn’t serve the experience.
Balancing user needs with system constraints and existing patterns.
Making decisions without any user data or research and standing by them.
Keeping experiences flexible without making them feel complex.
Staying focused on the problem when multiple solutions felt possible.
